ST FRANCIS COLLEGE @25
Clocking 25 years as an institution of learning was not a feat that the school management was willing to let go without some celebrations. In fact, the silver jubilee celebrations were held in high esteem by the college. As a result of the important nature of the anniversary, classes were suspended for a week to pave way for series of events that characterized the celebrations.
Day One 1st October, 2019: Opening ceremony.
The first day of the silver jubilee celebrations was a unique day as it was the day our dear country Nigeria marked her 59th Independence. To make the memory of this day an indelible one, students were made to assemble in front of the new classroom for a joyful procession along the major street of Zonkwa as a way of heralding the all important anniversary week celebrations. As the students were assembled, an address was made by the school’s vice principal, Fr. Oliver Ukwueze who emphasized the modalities of the procession. He equally announced on behalf of the management that henceforth, all general assemblies will be held in front of the new classroom structure of the college. Thereafter, the Principal of the College, Fr Jonah Stephen in the presence of Zango Kataf Local Government Chairman, Hon Elias Manzah, members of Staff, Boys and Girls Brigade, students and well wishers of the college, officially declared the anniversary week open. After the principal’s declaration, came a goodwill speech by the LGA Chairman.

Day Two 2nd October, 2019: Career Talk
The second day been the 2nd of October 2019, started with the Holy Mass at 8:00am; after which the students went for their breakfast. At exactly 10:00am, all the students converged at the school hall for the day’s event which was career talk. Presentations were made by various speakers from different fields of endeavour ranging from the sciences, arts, commercial and entrepreneurship. The aim of the talk was to guide the students on career choices. Students were educated on the importance of various fields of studies, followed by questions and answers. The day’s event ended with social activities which took place in the evening.

Day Three 3rd October, 2019: Cultural Day
The third day, been the 3rd of October 2019, was made the cultural day. The sight of the school’s multipurpose hall, even during Mass was awesome. Seeing students as well as members of Staff dressed in their different cultural attires was something pleasant to behold. The day had a display of the richness of the different cultures that abound in the school. These cultures were that of the Igbos, Yorubas and so many tribes in Southern Kaduna. Apart from the different cultural renditions that were apparently appealing, were the different cultural delicacies that not only spiced up the occasion but made it fantastically beautiful. On the fourth day, been the 4th of October 2019, the celebration was spearheaded by St Francis Old Students Association popularly called SAFOSA. They were in charge of all the activities carried out that day. The events began with various forms of sports which took place immediately after the Holy Mass. The sporting events began with a football match between the students/staff of the college and the SAFOSA. The football match ended up with two goals to nil in favour of St Francis Old Students. Later in the afternoon, series of activities took place in the hall among which were a talk on GIRL CHILD EDUCATION and a talk-show on the topic:- ST FRANCIS OF YESTERDAY, TODAY AND FUTURE PERSPECTIVES. The day was really a whole lot of fun as the students got to see past students that are now great people in the society.

Day Four 4th October, 2019: SAFOSA Day
The grand finale of the anniversary week took place on the 5th day of October 2019. The Holy Mass for the day had the Diocesan Administrator, Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Abba Biliyock as the chief celebrant cum homilist. A good number of priests both from within the diocese and some members of SAFOSA who are priests served as co-celebrants at the Mass. The day witnessed so many dignitaries who came to support the college financially for the completion of her ultra-modern classroom structure. After the mass, came the second phase of the anniversary’s grand finale, that is, the fund raising. This was anchored by Mr. Victor Galadima (M.C Dan Gata). Before the fund raising proper, there was a speech by the guest speaker of the day, Rev. Fr. Henry Kwasu, who was an old student of the college. The Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Barr. Emmanuel Kantiok, Member Kaduna State House of Assembly was the one who declared the fund raising open. As the invited guests were making donations in support of the college, there was a Samba Dance by the students of the institution. The cutting of the anniversary cake and presentations of meritorious awards to deserving individuals who distinguished themselves in their support of the college brought the second phase of the grand finale to an end.
